چکیده

Treatment with anti-EGFR monoclonal antibodies has been successfully integrated in the continuum of care for metastatic colorectal cancer. The major challenge is the identification of patients who would benefit from treatment. Currently, the best predictor of efficacy is the absence of mutations in KRAS and NRAS genes. Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: Optimizing Treatment with Anti-EGFR Monoclonal Antibody

Colorectal cancer remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide despite substantial improvement in the standard of care. Although surgical resection in selected patients may potentially be curative, systemic therapy is the only choice of treatment for most patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. Anti-epidermal growth factor receptor (anti-EGFR) monoclonal antibody has establish...

“How should we treat older patients with Metastatic Colorectal Cancer, A Review”

Nearly 50 % of newly diagnosed colorectal cancer, affect people over 70 years of age. Inclusion of older patients in clinical trials has been extremely rare. As a result, there is debate on how to manage these patients because it is still unclear how to balance the therapeutic advantages and toxicities. For patients who do not have comorbid conditions, with performance status (P.S.) 0–1, treatm...

Subsequent anti-VEGF therapy after first-line anti-EGFR therapy improved overall survival of patients with metastatic colorectal cancer

Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer deaths worldwide. Due to targeted therapy, overall survival (OS) of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) patients has been significantly increased over the past decade. However, the best sequencing of the therapeutic agents to be used in RAS wild-type subgroup is still under research. To determine the efficacy of targeted therapy, we colle...

Evaluation of Expression of EGFR, HER-2 and COX-2 in Colorectal Cancer

Background and objective: EGFR and HER-2 are two members of ERbB/HER family of Type I Transmembrane growth factor receptors. Cox2 is an enzyme responsible for the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins, which has a major role in angiogenesis and can modelate tumor growth. The aim of this study was to determine the level of expression of EGFR, HER-2 and Cox2 in colorectd cancer. Mater...

Molecular Markers for the Prediction of Anti-EGFR Monoclonal Antibody Treatment Efficacy in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

The implementation of individualized targeted therapy for metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC), in addition to standard chemotherapeutic regimens, currently is a topic under debate. Approximately 35% 45% of mCRC patients exhibit mutated KRAS, which is considered to be an independent predictor of poor response to treatment with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) monoclonal antibody. However,...
